Chicago Spire sales reach 30 percent mark
The Chicago Spire announced sales figures for the first time for the building. According to the developer, Garrett Kelleher, sales in the ultra luxurious high-rise have reached the 30 percent mark.
Doubts still surround the project, which had faced some problems getting off the ground until Mr. Kelleher stepped in to take the project to the sales phase. In boom times in the city, developers generally have to have at least 30 percent of the units sold to obtain financing for the construction of the building. However, banks and lenders are now tightening requirements, forcing developers to pre-sell more units before going ahead with the project.
Prices for condominiums start in the mid $700s for a studio unit, making the Chicago Spire the single-most expensive condominium development in the city. Condominiums are priced up to as much as $40 million for the penthouse unit.
The sales team for the Spire has embarked on a trip around the world to raise interest in the ultra luxury building and sell Chicago as an international destination. A cheap dollar and rising wealth in countries such as China has led to a lot of interest in the Spire from foreign buyers.
