According to data from the Chicago Association of Realtors, a total of just 27 homes were sold in the neighborhood during the first quarter. This represents a more than 50 percent decline in sales from the same period last year, and the lowest total sales seen in the area since 1996.

However, demand could pick up in the short term as buyers start to find great prices on condominiums around Hyde Park. The average sales price fell by 24 percent during the first quarter, a significant decline in prices for the neighborhood.

Condo owners and developers were able to breathe a sigh of relief as the market time for units on the market remained unchanged. It took an average of 145 days to find a buyer during the quarter.
