Condo development stalled in Bucktown
Plans for the redevelopment of a convent into luxury condominiums and townhomes are on hold as developers work to gain approval for a zoning change for the property.
The redevelopment of the Sisters of the Resurrection Convent, located on North Hermitage, faces opposition from a new neighborhood group, the East Bucktown Neighbors.
The group opposes the plans, arguing that the new development would create congestion in the neighborhood.
Plans from the developer, LG Development Group, called for converting the convent into 14 condominiums. The developer also wants to build 11 townhomes on a property close to the convent.
The developer plans to continue working with the community group and local alderman, Scott Waguespack to reach a mutually acceptable compromise on the proposed project.
Neighborhood groups from around the city are banding together to protect their neighborhoods from overdevelopment and the loss of historic buildings.
